With data access becoming increasingly ubiquitous, and the amount and variety of value-added services increasing daily, one question continues to grow in importance in the wireless world: what will be the future role of operators? How will they benefit from the growth in wireless they’ve done so much to drive?
In an article published In Internet Telephony (a TMCNet property), InterDigital’s Narayan Menon explains that most operators will likely double down on their core competencies in order to monetize the increased network usage. Narayan predicts network operators will invest in three key areas – small cells, cloud technology, and sponsored connectivity. He also points out that while operator investments are important, it will be equally as important for standards bodies to get on board to make these future networks a reality.
