Bristol Is Open - Final Weekend of 5G Trial

This weekend marks the final days of a next generation 5G Internet trial in Bristol, England. The trial, called Bristol is Open (BIO, for short) is designed as an internet-enabled scavenger hunt in the central part of Bristol. The trial is open to anyone with an Android device who is interested in testing new technology.

Users with Android devices are invited to participate by downloading the app and taking part in a walk-around search for clues. The game was developed by InterDigital Europe in conjunction with CVTC as part of a European funded project called POINT. You can find more about POINT by clicking here.

The project is proving the use of new IP networking technology, which will contribute to 5G technology developments. More specifically, the technology will improve on experienced latency of services over the network, such as video streaming, while reducing the overall network utilization when accessing such services.

The BIO game involves teams of individuals from 3-6 players (each with an Android device), and takes approximately 45 minutes to complete. If you’d like to help test a new 5G wireless technology, you have until July 23 to participate. So download the app at the Google Play store HERE and make your way to Bristol City Centre this weekend!
