InterDigital’s Alan Carlton Accepted as New IDG Contributor

<p>InterDigital&rsquo;s Alan Carlton, Vice President, InterDigital Europe, was recently accepted to participate in the International Data Group (IDG) Contributor Network. IDG&rsquo;s NetworkWorld, the premier provider of information and intelligence for Network and IT executives, will feature regular contributions from Alan under the blog titled &ldquo;<a href="http://www.networkworld.com/blog/5g-and-future-mobile/">5G and Future Mobile</a>.&rdquo; Last Friday marked the first published contribution: &ldquo;<a href="http://www.networkworld.com/article/3028618/virtualization/5g-is-coming-and-it-is-the-future-of-mobile.html">5G is coming and it is the future of mobile</a>.&rdquo; &nbsp;</p>
<p>In the article, Alan discusses what he refers to as the true vision for fifth generation mobile networks.&nbsp; He explains that in 5G wireless will grow into a truly horizontal industry that provides support for literally everything. To face this challenge, 5G will need to be built on a foundation of established IT thinking that takes the technologies to new levels and depth of integration. Finally, Alan briefly explores one of the hottest topics in telecom today, Software Defined Networking (SDN)/ Network Function Virtualization (NFV), and how these concepts will be utilized in 5G.&nbsp; &nbsp;</p>
<p>With over 25 years in the wireless technology industry, Alan&rsquo;s well suited to provide valuable insight into the future of mobile. He currently leads 5G and Internet of Things research efforts at InterDigital Europe. His team actively participates in&nbsp;<a href="http://ir.interdigital.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=913110">three EU projects</a> funded by Horizon 2020, the &euro;80 billion European research and innovation program focused on the development of 5G, as well as a European Commission <a href="http://ir.interdigital.com/releasedetail.cfm?releaseid=913112">study of socioeconomic impact of 5G</a>. &nbsp;</p>
