At InterDigital, our commitment to a more equitable world comes to life through the impactful work of the InterDigital Foundation, showcased in our 2025 Corporate Sustainability Report. Through focused philanthropy, the Foundation champions education and empowers our employees to make an impact. We focus our support on charities and programs, especially near our major offices, that open doors in technology and engineering fields, particularly for diverse and historically underserved communities.
Philanthropic Mission
We believe innovation starts with people, not just in labs, but in communities. This belief forms the foundation of our philanthropic mission: to build a more sustainable and equitable world through focused giving, strategic partnerships, and a deep and lasting commitment to education, equity, and opportunity.
Through the InterDigital Foundation, we support impactful initiatives that reflect our core values and long-term visions of driving innovation, uplifting inclusion, and empowering the next generation of changemakers. Central to this mission is our commitment to advancing science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education, and innovation of all kinds. We recognize that STEM is essential to equipping tomorrow’s innovators and expanding access to meaningful careers in technology.
By supporting STEM scholarships and community outreach, InterDigital aims to diversify the pipeline of future leaders and ensure a steady stream of skilled professionals in IP-intensive industries. This investment not only fuels innovation but also strengthens economic growth and global competitiveness.
Supporting Education: Universities and Schools
In 2024, we established non-endowed scholarships at Delaware State University and Howard University. These two institutions serve diverse and underrepresented communities, and these scholarships are intended to remove financial barriers to STEM education, helping students focus on learning, discovery, and innovation. By aligning financial support with academic potential, these scholarships promote a more inclusive technology sector enriched by a diversity of voices and perspectives.
Honoring the legacy of InterDigital’s former CEO and President and Temple Law alum, Bill Merritt, The William J. Merritt Student Fellowship provides financial support and mentorship for Temple University law students to explore the intersection of law, innovation, and society.
The 2024 Merritt Fellows, Angela Sadat (LAW ‘25) and Jamal Connelly (LAW ‘25) are addressing key issues, from digital equity in education to transit-oriented development. Through mentorship, financial support, and academic research, the fellowship aims to inspire future leaders who will shape just and inclusive technology policies.
For the last five years, InterDigital has been supporting Full STEAM Forward, an after school, science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) programming for young girls from underserved communities. In the 2024-25 school year, we reached over 200 students, including many at the Henry Longfellow School in Brooklyn. Their new and innovative AI curriculum helped spark curiosity, creativity, and confidence in young learners. InterDigital also supports City Year DC, an organization that places AmeriCorps members in under-resourced public schools to provide academic support, mentorship, and training to help students in the Washington, D.C. area succeed in school, and beyond.
STEM Focused Programs
InterDigital proudly supports Zip Code Wilmington, a non-profit coding school that is shaping the future of tech talent in Delaware. In 2024, our support helped Zip Code Wilmington double their capacity to train local computer science educators, ensuring K-12 students gain access to top-tier instruction in digital literacy and programming.
Through continuing education programs and the B1ue N0te youth initiative, InterDigital is playing a critical role in building a robust pathway of technical educators and students, particularly from underserved communities.
As our footprint expands globally, so does our reach. This year, InterDigital has chosen to support FACE in Rennes, France, which is home to our largest office and to our video lab. FACE empowers girls with hands-on digital literacy skills needed to succeed in the modern world. These immersive programs help open career paths in STEM for girls who may not have otherwise envisioned themselves in tech.
Additional Charitable Donations
Philanthropy at InterDigital also means honoring our shared past as we invest in our future. Through our support and long-term partnership of the Hagley Museum and Library, we help preserve the legacy of American innovation, encompassing a climate of creativity that encourages people to think, and act, like inventors.
Our philanthropy also fuels storytelling, leadership, and global collaboration. At the March on Washington Film Festival, which was founded to increase awareness of the icons within the Civil Rights Movement, InterDigital amplifies the voices and stories of civil rights leaders, encouraging the next generation of changemakers to build strong and more cohesive communities through powerful storytelling.
At the intersection of technology, public policy and innovation, The Global Women’s Innovation Network (GlobalWIN) provides a platform for women leaders across industries to connect, collaborate, and drive innovation. Through InterDigital’s support, we help foster a more inclusive and collaborative future where women play central roles in shaping the direction of our industry.
Our philanthropy is also personal. In 2024, we sponsored Team InterDigital for the 2024 Bike MS City to Shore bicycle ride, raising over $50,000 to help defeat Multiple Sclerosis, earning top recognitions including the “Mission Possible Team Award” and “First Class Fundraiser Award.”
Matching every dollar raised by Team InterDigital riders, InterDigital doubled the impact of individual donations, showcasing how individual passion and corporate commitment can come together for life-changing outcomes.
In addition to these initiatives, the InterDigital Foundation proudly support organizations that promote civic engagement, intellectual property rights, and public education, including:
- Tax Foundation
- Eagle Forum
- IPO Education Foundation
- All In Together
- Center for Intellectual Property Protection (CPIP)
At InterDigital, our commitment to giving is not an afterthought, it’s embedded into who we are. By dedicating a percentage of our operating income annually to philanthropic efforts, we directly invest in causes that matter; investing in a future where technology, opportunity, and humanity grow together.
