InterDigital’s Rafael Cepeda, Senior Manager, examines if 5G can become an enabler that provides flexible connectivity and core tools for IoT building blocks in a recent article featured on TelecomEngine. Rafael states that with 5G developments well underway, the conversation has turned to how 5G will impact society and intersect with the Internet of Things (IoT).

In his article, Rafael utilizes examples from the transport sector and smart cities to reveal how the mobile networks of today are not designed to handle the large expansion of diverse data that will come with IoT. However, 5G networks are anticipated to provide the flexibility required for the data generated by the IoT. Therefore, IoT will drive the dynamic configuration of the 5G network. Ultimately, Rafael explains that the two will work together to deliver the ultimate efficient configuration that will serve all end user’s needs whenever, and wherever.
